Anything But A Card Challenge #4

Hi All, Happy Saturday. I hope you have some great weather and awesome plans to go with it. Or maybe some "Crafting" Time..Those are always welcome.

For the February ABAC - It is an Altered Clipboard Challenge. You can alter a regular or mini clipboard to either display a photo or as a message center or even to just use it as a good ole clipboard.

Here is my altered clipboard. I plan to use this for my vacation pictures that I can keep rotating.

I cut out a piece of pure poppy Card stock (4.5x6.5) and then scored it on the inside at ever 1/4" and then using those score marks I cut out the inside panel using my Fiskars blade knife. I then put some foam dots on it and adhered it to the clipboard. So that way when I want to change the picture, I can simply remove this and insert a new one.

I then embellished the clipboard with some flowers, some tim holtz tape and a old ticket that I had and also with some butterflies. I tied some ribbon to the clipboard handle to jazz it up a bit more.

I used PTI Polka Dot Basics and another image from the Vintage Labels set to create my background pieces. I could have as easily used patterned paper and put together some cards quickly :) Good for mass producing holiday cards and to use up some of the scrap paper.The sentiment is from PTI Signature Christmas Stamp set.

Anything But A Card (ABAC) Challenge #3

Hello everyone! This month I've had Valentine's treats on my mind. I love finding creative ways to package the kiddos V-day treats. Since Hearts day is just around the corner I thought it would be fun to have a Valentine or heart related challenge. So, this month ABAC challenge is to create a valentine using candy...sounds yummy huh?

Here are a few samples I made using ideas from the Family Fun website. They have lots of good ideas to get you started. Or be more creative then I and come up with your own creation. Can't wait to see what you make.

This is a box of candy hearts wrapped in card stock. I used Hershey kisses for the earphones. You can find the instructions HERE.

This adorable little plane is made from sweet tarts, lifesavers and gum. You can find the instructions HERE.

Scrapbook Challenge 23

Good Morning everyone! Today I am happy to be hosting this months scrapbook challenge. This challenge has two parts. Below I have created a sketch for you. The second part of the challenge is to add a star somewhere on your page. Easy Peasy!

I usually prefer to get my hands dirty when I scrapbook but I thought I'd play around with a digital kit. Here is an example I created using a FREE kit from Shabby Princess. They have a wonderful variety of kits for FREE if you are interested in trying digital scrapbooking. Also, I did my page just using Power Point...nothing fancy smancy here...oh and I'm computer challenged. So, it is possible for anyone that would like to give it a go. I have to admit I'm not ready to give up my scissors and glue just yet but it was fun to try.

Inspired Crafters ABAC Challenge 2

Whoops, the IC Anything BUT a Card challenge is supposed to be on the third Saturday of the month right? Well, my social secretary forgot to remind me LOL! So here it is, a little late, but FIRST the winner of the blog candy from last month's challenge: Lindsay! Congratulations Lindsay. If you would email me your address I will get your prize, a PTI 3rd Anniversary set--Round and Round. You can see her creation HERE (she actually linked under the wrong post, but labeled it for the ABAC challenge).

So without further ado, here is your ABAC challenge for Dec. Create a 3-D item using punches, dies, or templates. It can be an ornament, package decoration, gift box, or just about anything else you can dream up! It doesn't necessarily have to have a holiday theme either--just go wild!

Here I have used a cut file from My Time Made Easy to create a pretty package adornment. This was very quick and easy to do. I cut out the layers with SCAL and my Cricut, scored the petals, sponged the edges with Shimmer paint, and attached each layer to the next with foam tape. I put some metallic dew drops in the center.
Here I just used my SU ornament punch 4 times, scored and adhered them together with a loop down the center for a cute little ornament, or it would be a cute 3-D gift tag. Super quick and simple!

christmas card challenge #8...

did you all remember to turn back your clocks last night? if not, make sure you do that before you head out this morning...you don't want to miss out on that extra hour of sleep. everyone in my house looks forward to that.

so i am back with the christmas card challenge for this month too. i really liked the grid design of my scrapbook sketch i posted yesterday so i used that as inspiration and i used scraps from that same project. all supplies are basic grey figgy pudding and pti.

so here is your challenge, use this scrapbook sketch for inspiration for your card and use scraps somewhere on your card. i know all of you have christmas scraps in your s-crapbox from last year lurking around....use them up!! i am trying not to buy new christmas paper this year and use what i got. one thing i have figured out, they always make more!!

when i use a colored cardstock i put a piece of this wausau cotton stationery inside and decorate it. (i bought this at target a few years ago.) it's easier to write on and easier for the recipient to read. my eyes like it cuz they aren't what they use too...i think the eye doctor called it "ole lady eyes". lol
anyway, i am off to eat breakfast, scott is making us blueberry pancakes with sausage this morning. i froze about 9 quarts of blueberries in august so now we reap the rewards from all that work. it's about 20' out, but i got fresh blueberries.

scrapbook challenge #22...

so i made this month's sketch an easy one for you. i used scraps of basic grey figgy pudding for the circles and then decorated each one, like mini scrapbook pages. this sketch comes from inspired blueprints. so after you make this, be sure and post over there too for some love. if you don't like the circles use whatever shape floats your boat. doesn't matter to me. not only did i do ONE lo for this sketch but i did TWO more for the boys books...feel guilty, yet?? lol

i used photos from last year's Christmas. just some shots of the boys opening up gifts. i have to admit that i screwed up some of brock's gifts. i bought the RIGHT games but they were for the WRONG system. he wasn't specific and i bought the wrong ones. thank goodness we open gifts on Christmas eve and thank goodness walmart was open. Scott ran him down there to get the right ones so that his Christmas wasn't ruined. i bet this year i get a DETAILED list...lol so the photo in the top left corner is his i'm disappointed shot.

anyway, we have leaves to rake, a basement to clean up and other fun Saturday projects...have a great month and be sure to scrapbook something!!

Anything BUT A Card! Challenge--3rd Saturday of the month

Hi, all you Inspired Crafters out there! I thought it might be fun to have an ABAC challenge once a month, in addition to cards and scrapbook pages. This month I challenge you to use glass (or clear plastic) to create SOMETHING. There are a ton of amazing ideas out there for using glass or clear plastic. The first pic shows a magnet, made by stamping and coloring a small image with permanent inks, adding a dollop of Crystal Effects, and squishing one of those clear glass jewels from Michaels down on top.

The second pic shows a clear glass ornament. You cut a circle of transparency plastic to fit in your ball, stamp an image with Staz-on and color with permanent markers. Roll it up, insert in the ball, add glitter and Voila! Tutorial found HERE. One helpful tip is to leave a notch of plastic sticking up at the top to stick up inside the opening and hold your clear plastic circle upright. Another cool thing to do with these glass balls is to pour in some Future Floor Wax, swirl it all around to coat the inside of your ball, and then pour in some colored glitter--HERE is a link to some adorable Halloween ones. This is great if you like to create your holiday decor around a specific color scheme.

I have had good luck with glass etching. The above example is made using a Krafty Block from Hobby Lobby and my Cricut and a vinyl stencil, but you can also heat emboss a stamped image on the glass, then etch (SCS has a great tutorial on this HERE). You can find cheap glass items at Dollar Tree and Wal-mart. You can buy glass bricks from Lowe's, but then you have to have a glass drill bit to drill a hole in it--much easier to use your 40% off coupon to buy a pre-drilled one at Hobby Lobby. Etching cream can be found at Mike's or Hobby Lobby. It's pretty easy to use, although smelly. The important thing to remember is to stick your stencil down really well so that the etching cream doesn't leak under. I also found some glass frosting spray paint type stuff at Lowe's today. I haven't tried it yet, but I will, and I'll let everyone know if it's easier or not.

You could apply a pretty rub-on to an empty wine or frappucino bottle. HERE is a cool link. If you don't want to mess with glass, you can use clear plastic. The plastic boxes that PTI packages their stamps in are perfect for this--very sturdy. Maybe you could make a clear cover for a bound mini book, or use your Nesties to cut out a shape and then stamp a design on it. The possibilities are almost endless!

I also thought it would be fun to add a color challenge as well. White on white cards have always been one of my favorites. There is just something about the clean and crisp look. So, my color challenge to you is to create a white ( or cream or linen) on white card using this sketch.

Sankari: Hi Everyone, My name is Sankari Wegman and I am so excited and honored to be part of the sketch challenge today! I am totally and unabashedly addicted to all things paper crafting related :) I started stamping and blogging almost 2 years ago and feel so blessed to have met such incredible bloggers and artists around the world who inspire me everyday with their creativity. I live in the midwest with my DH and two children and when I am not in the craftroom, currently I am trying to finish my PhD and also I teach a couple of courses at the University.

IC Blog: What is your must have stamping tool and accessory?
Sankari: My must have stamping tool is a corner chomper (love that it chomps through sheets of cardstock and chipboard all at once) and my must have stamping accessory are my liquid pearls (I am slightly addicted to them ;)

IC Blog: Any current trends that are inspiring to you
Sankari: One trend that is inspiring me is the pennant craze - I love cutting things out and so its fun to cut out little pennants and attach them to your card - it creates an instant celebratory tone to your card :)

IC Blog: What patterned papers are you creating with lately
Sankari: I am a huge fan of Cosmo Cricket and just recently, I got hooked onto Echo Park paper - how cute are those designs!?! I also love Bo Bunny and My Mind's Eye and well lets face it - I will never say no to any paper - so pretty much everything!

IC Blog: What tips can you share with our blog readers
Sankari: I love using sketches and so one thing that I do is to keep a little notebook by my craft area where I can quickly draw a sketch that inspires me when I am surfing blogland. I also write the URL by the sketch so that in the future I can refer back to it. Sometimes when I feel stuck, I will pull out the sketchbook and suddenly I might have an idea. And if you write the URL, then you always know where you got that sketch from and you won't have to surf around looking for it :) I know I will be keeping this gorgeous sketch in my notebook for the future! Thanks so much for letting me play along today!

September Christmas Card Challenge

Okay everyone I am going to give my first sketch posting a try. I was excited to make a Christmas card because now I am in the groove to be creative. I would love to see what everyone comes up with on my first IC Challenge. This challenge ends on September 30th and there is a prize for it. It is a collection of 12 sheets of 6x6 sized Christmas themed papers - from Basic Grey, Kaiser Crafts etc and some Christmas themed ribbon and buttons. So, please feel free to create some Christmas cards in September...

I used my scroll embossing folder which is a favorite of mine and then cut 1 3/4 inch circles with a SU punch. I then stamped Merry Christmas and added some ribbon. Had to dig in my scraps since I haven't bought any Christmas paper yet this year.

happy saturday peeps!! i love saturdays cuz i get to sleep in. lol but today i also get to post a new scrapbook challenge for you. i hope that you will join us. i know you are all sitting on a pile of photos that aren't in albums. so get off your "bumbleberry" (quinn's new word for your butt lol) and get something done this week? it's a super easy sketch from scrapbook challenges. there are several great sketches over there, so be sure to check them out!! this is # 213, in case you are wondering.

i happen to have LOTS of little 3.5 x 5 photos of the boys when they were babies. so they are pretty easy to crop into the smaller pics. i used rectangle spellbinders to cut them out. you could use 2 4x6 or 3 4x6. it doesn't have to be these 5 little pics. but mine happen to fit perfectly. these are just random photos of quinn when we were stationed in upstate NY. he was so cute...and this year he's a 7th grader. unbelievable!!

supplies are all basic grey oliver.

Updates and New Challenges

Hello Everyone,

Sorry that we have not updated the challenge blog in a while. Things have been hectic and with Summer Holidays everybody were busy traveling and spending time with their family and friends.

But now we are back with some exciting changes and new challenges. There are some changes to the Challenge formats.

1) We will continue to have three Challenges - Regular card challenge, Christmas card Challenge and scrapbook page challenge.
2) The change is in the frequency of challenges. You will now have almost one month to complete the challenges. This gives us time to come up with interesting sketches and prizes..yes there will be prizes for each of the challenges.
3) So starting with the Month of September,
First Friday of the Month - Regular Card Challenge
First Saturday of the Month - Scrapbook page Challenge
First Sunday of the Month - Christmas Card Challenge.

I am quite excited to have the challenges back and to give you all a chance to win something for each of these challenges. Having some time to work with the challenges is also helpful.

I will be back this Friday with our Regular card challenge. Please stop back and check it out and to win something exciting. Any comments and suggestions are welcome.

Hello Folks..Time seems to be flying. It is already Mid May :) It is Saturday and time for our Saturday Scrapbook Challenge.

For this week, the challenge is to create a birthday layout - any birthday related layout and in addition you need to use a stamped image on your layout. It is not so hard..We always have plenty of birthday photos that we need to scrapbook.

Here is my layout that I created for my nephew's birthday. This page is part of his birthday album.

I wanted to show case his birthday cake. I used the cake image from SU Birthday Whimsy stamp set.

Here is my sample. I used the American Crafts Dear Lizzy Paper collection for this layout. I also used one of the Adhesive backed fabric paper for this LO. It was kind of hard to cut the fabric paper, but I loved the texture of it. Title was done using American Crafts Thicker. Stickers are all from the same collection from AC. Sorry for the bad picture of my LO.

These are our pictures from our recent visit to the Dallas Arboretum. It was an absolutely beautiful day and we had lots of fun admiring the beautiful flowers and greenery.

It is already May..Time is passing quickly. I used this old music sheet that somebody had sent me as RAK along with some left over stuff from card bin. The green glitter paper is American Crafts Glitter paper. the background paper is BG Eskimo Kisses. Ribbon is from the stash.

i have decided since only 2 of you did all 4 of my sketches, {shame on the rest of you!!} which was tina and sara....i am going to bring you both back something from convention. tina is not a scrapper, so for her to do them, i am most impressed! BTW, i talk to tina online all the time, but am finally going to meet her today at convention!! wahoo!! and my dear friend sara, who doesn't have internet right now...i sent her the challenges so that she could play along, she got all 4 done too...so you both deserve something good in the mail this week!

well, this will be my last challenge for my "convention RAK" giveaway. i used another sketch from Studio Calico. go here to see the original post and another inspiration lo. i really like this sketch and it could easliy be turned into 2-3 pictures instead of just the one. but this is the only picture i had of quinn and avery jane for this occasion. this was taken on quinn's first day of pre-k.

supplies: bazzill dot cs, mme be loved dp & heart & scallop border, pti aqua mist buttons, k & co wood like alpha, random alpha, and jenni bowlin journal circle. once again i used my typewriter for the journaling and then just cut it apart. i always sand my photos and i always shred the edges of the cs i use and then i ink everything with antique linen and walnut ink. i use a steak knife to run along the cs to create the "worn" effect.

you have until april 30th at midnight EST, to get all 4 of the sketch challenges done i have given you. i will then pick a name and pick you up something while i am shopping at the CK convention on may 1st. so get busy!

g-morning, sunshine...that was the subject of the email from my hubs this am...it made me smile. it's saturday, i love saturday. i slept late and took the dogs on our 2 mile walk. it's cool and windy here, our kind of walking weather. so for today's challenge i chose one of julie bonner's sketches, it's no secret that i am a fan of her work. she is the one that did the 52 sketches, 52 weeks last year. her sketches rock.

And here is my take on the sketch. I love this set from Flourishes and thought it would be great for this sketch. CS, DP, and eyelets are all SU retired (Cranberry Crisp and True Thyme if you are interested, two SU is not bringing back). I used Nesties for the circles, and the flowers are Prima. They match the card better IRL.

happy saturday, peeps! this is chris and i am taking over the SB challenges for the month of april. banu has done an excellent job here with this blog, so i sent her on vacation for a couple of weeks. i print out sketches practically everyday and then i put them in a clip on my desk for inspiration. well, i am behind on them so for the next 4 saturdays i will pick one of those sketches for us to do. it you complete all 4 sketches by april 30th. i will put your name into a "hat" and the boys will pick one lucky winner to win a RAK from me that i will personally buy for you at the CK convention where i will be spending WAY TOO much money at on may 1st. and believe me they have some good stuff there!!

so for today i have picked out a sketch from SKETCHY THURSDAY. i love their sketches and use them regularly. they post a new sketch every thursday. so be sure to check them out. this sketch was posted in february and you can find the original post here. plus there are some great samples from their DT there too, just in case you need some inspiration.

for my sketch i chose the photo of brock and faith from their first winter formal dance together. they have since broken up so i didn't score too many "mom points" for scrapping this...but i did it anyway, cuz i'm like that. it's called "secret terrorism" around here...lol and besides it's for my book anyway...but don't tell him, i'm doing one for his too. i'll sneak it in...[insert evil laugh here]

I sponged the white circle with some Memento Desert Sand ink while it was still in the Nestabilities Die. Then I stamped the Umbrella handle and put the umbrella itself popped up on some foam dots. Some ribbon and felt flowers completed the card.

Sorry for the late post. I was not well and did not have time to schedule this post for you all :) But I hope you will still play along with us :)

Today's is a dual Challenge :) Create a LO based on this sketch from Pagemaps and also use Brads in your LO :) One brad or more - does not matter :)

Here is my LO,

These are pictures to the Spice Souk (Market) during our Dubai Visit. I used this new journaling sticker from American Crafts..but it does not photograph well. Plus I guess I used the wrong color sharpie for my journaling as well :) I used a bunch of brads and buttons for the border idea. Patterned paper is from my stash...so I feel good about using up some of my scrap stash. And in retrospect, the color of the alpha stickers that I used are not standing out much :) but Oh well..that is just another reason to create another layout.

And here is the layout I made using the sketch. I liked how many spaces there were available for either pictures or paper, as well as that long journaling spot on the side. I've found myself journaling more and more lately. I really want my family to know the story behind the pictures long after I've forgotten the story. If journaling isn't really something you like to do, again, modify the sketch to whatever suits you.

Here’s my card. I didn’t have the curvy label punch as I lent it to a friend! Go figure- but this is close enough!

I'm so excited to be hosting this very first challenge specifically a sketch challenge. You do not need to follow the color scheme at all just the sketch! The theme is up to you!

This is open to everyone and there is no time limit as to when it needs to be completed. So as soon as you are done just hook yourself up with Mr. Linky and we'll be sure to check out your card.

Morning All! I am so excited to be hosting this weeks scrapbook challenge....and I've decided to go sketchless! This weeks challenge is to find a magazine advertisment that inspires you in some way. It can be the layout, colors, shapes....whatever you find inspiring. My layout was inspired by this page in a Longaberger catalog. I was inspired by the way the different size photos nestled together.

Here at Inspired Crafters we are trying to get more organized and get more stamping and scrapbooking done this year. So here is this week's sketch. This sketch was originally sketch # 23 on 52 Weeks 52 Sketches, and can now be found on Julie Bonner's blog. Since I only got about 2 of them done, and I only know ONE person who has done them all (way to go Chris!) I thought it would be okay to use this one.

ICCJAN10 - Christmas Card Challenge for January

Good Morning Everyone!!
Welcome to the first of the Christmas Card Challenges by Inspired Crafters. I wanted to start off with a simple sketch.

The challenge is to use the following sketch to create Christmas/Holiday Cards. I know, I know..Christmas just went by :) But it is good to start from the beginning of the year and build up a stash of cards so that you are not stressed out at the year end :) So do not put away those stamps just yet :). If you want set a goal of making more than one cards, that is just awesome and it is up to the individual. But please do make at least one holiday card using this sketch.

This sketch was inspired by one of the cards that my friend Chris had sent me during 2008 Holiday. WOW!! Time is flying past.

Please use the Mr.Linky at the bottom of the post to link your card or blog post. There is no time limit for our challenges and you can have as many entries as you want to.
If you would like to post the picture of sketch on your blog that is great, but please save the image to your computer first and then upload it to your blog.

Here is my sample,

I did 4 of these cards using one sheet of 8x8 DSP cut into 4 - 4x4 pieces and one sheet of Green Card stock for the 4 1/8 x 4 1/8 mat. Two red card stock gave me 4 card bases. I used my left over white scrap for the image and sentiments. Also you will need about 4.5 yards of ribbon.

Stamp - Justrite Merry Christmas Stamp Set
Paper - PTI Rustic Snowflakes DP, PTI Pure Poppy and Vintage Cream CS, SU Green CS
Ink - Memento Black, PTI Pure Poppy, Copic Spica Glitter Markers
Other - May Arts Ribbon, Circle Punches, SU Word Window Punch

New Year, New Resolutions - Get more scrap booking done :) Woohoo!! With that in mind and knowing that 52Sketches52Weeks sketch challenge was ending, Inspired Crafters decided to have their own Scrapbook Sketch Challenge. Basically, we use a sketch from one of the multiple sketch sites out there and create our layouts based on that sketch.

Welcome to Inspired Crafters. We are excited about this venture where we will be able to share and enjoy this mutual passion in paper crafting.

All the Design Team members you see - we met on another stamping forum and thanks to our love of PapertreyInk Products, we all became friends. We were regularly doing swaps, but we wanted to branch out into something more - Christmas card challenges, just for fun challenges and more. So, this blog was born. You are most welcome to come participate in the challenges and swaps. (More details will be forthcoming on all these fun stuff).

Suggestions, comments and critiques are welcome. We will start with our first challenge/exciting stuff in the first week of January - 2010. New year and new ideas bursting forth. So, please visit us again to be part of inspiration.
